Counselor’s Corner

Happy March!  Hopefully, spring is right around the corner!

March has some important dates to remember.  First and foremost is the Local Scholarship.  The applications were given out on February 9th and they are also available online, you will find a link on the District Homepage.  If you access the application from a school computer, you are able to save it to your student directory so you can work on it when you have time.  When you are finished with the application, you can print it and turn it into the Guidance Office by March 1st.  We will proofread it and then return it to you to make any corrections.  The final due date is March 11.  Any late applications will not be considered for a scholarship award.  Also, don’t forget that you need two letters of recommendation to accompany your application.  I will attach transcripts to all of the applications, so students don’t need to worry about getting a copy.

Seniors planning to enroll in SVCC courses this summer or fall need to take the placement test.  I have scheduled April 14th with Sauk for any Milledgeville Senior needing to take the placement test. The 14th of April is also a Discover Sauk Day, so if you have any further questions it will be a great day to attend.  Their will be a sign up sheet in the high school office in the later part of March.  If you have already taken the ACT and your scores qualify, you will not need to take the placement test.  It is also recommended that students complete the online application for SVCC before taking the placement test.  The application can be found at www.svcc.edu under “Getting Started at Sauk”.  Please stop by the guidance office to see if your ACT scores qualify and/or to sign up for the test.

Juniors – now is the time to take college campus visits and tours.  This is an important step in narrowing down your choices for college applications.  Many schools have an early application deadline of November 1st.  Spring Break is an excellent opportunities to take advantage of non-school days to visit colleges that are in session.  If you are planning a college visit, be sure to stop by the guidance office to pick up a copy of the college visit form.

Juniors – we are also continuing through the month of March to work on PSAE test taking strategies.  We meet every Wednesday during 8th hour in the High School Library.  I encourage all of you to attend, every question counts and could mean the chance to get into your dream school as well as more available scholarship opportunities.

Seniors – don’t forget to keep working on that FAFSA and applying for various scholarships.  Several seniors have stopped in to pick up scholarship information, please continue to stop by or check the Counselor’s Corner to see what is available.  I have tried to make most applications available on the internet – some you are able to type in and then print, but others need to be printed and then completed.
