Here it is May already and summer is right around the corner. Fortunately, we
still have a few weeks left to wrap up those loose ends. The last day of school
is fast approaching which means that final preparations are being made for next
year. If possible, students will receive a copy of their schedule for next year.
With the beginning of school being such a hectic time, it is best to take care
of scheduling concerns now or over the summer months. I will be in my office
until June 10, but am always available via e-mail through the summer. Please
feel free to contact me with any concerns about your student’s schedule.
Seniors – your high school experience will soon be finished, so I wish each of
you the best in all your future endeavors. I have thoroughly enjoyed working
with each of you this past year in making your college and career plans. Please
remember to let me know where final transcripts need to be sent. Even if you’ve
already sent transcripts and have been admitted, schools require a complete
final transcript for their files. If anything comes up over the summer, feel
free to contact me. I will be in and out of the building, but I will check my
e-mail regularly.
For the juniors, you will now have taken the ACT/PSAE exam, and I hope you are
satisfied with your scores. If not, please be sure to keep track of the dates
for upcoming tests. There is a test date scheduled for June 12 and the deadline
to register is May 7. The next test will not be offered until September 11 and
the registration deadline is August 67. You can register online at
www.actstudent.org or pick up a registration packet in the Guidance Office. The
registration fee is $32, but if you miss the deadline, there is a late fee of an
additional $21.
It is also important for juniors to start narrowing down their college choices.
Take advantage of the summer to do some campus visits. Once school starts next
fall, you will want to start sending out college admission applications and most
schools have application fees ranging from $25 to $50. Unless paying those fees
is not an issue, you should try to decide on one to three schools in which you
are really interested. Most schools have online applications and some even have
lower/free application fees if you use the online option.
Freshmen and sophomores should continue working toward their educational and
career goals. I know there are still a lot of you who are not sure about what
you want to do after you graduate, so now is the time to do some of that
self-exploration and evaluation. You have the opportunity to try some different
classes and see where your interests lie.
It is also an exciting time for the 8th grade students who will be incoming
freshmen next year. High school is an important time in your life and one that
you can only experience once, so be sure to make the best of it. I know it
sounds cliché, but it is one of the best times in your lives. We are fortunate
here at Milledgeville to have a great faculty and staff whose aim it is for you
to have success and reach your full potential.
Thanks for a great year and have a wonderful summer!
