Astronomy is a semester elective course for seniors. Prerequisite is Algebra II and Natural Science. Chemistry, Physics, and Advanced Math are also highly recommended. The course is designed for students whose career goals involve the sciences, engineering, or education.
Astronomy is one of the oldest and most misunderstood subjects.
Students in Astronomy will investigate the history of astronomy in past
and current cultures. The course will investigate the structure and relationship
of the earth, our solar system, and galaxy. Students will investigate current
theories of the formation of our solar system and the universe. Field trips
to see local telescopes and Adler Planetarium are likely. Topics include:
