Milledgeville FFA Goes to State Leadership Convention

Each year, over 5,000 FFA members and guests from across the state gather to learn about careers in the agriculture industry, compete for scholarships, volunteer in the community and shape the future of the Illinois FFA Association. The 89th Illinois FFA Leadership Conference took place in Springfield, Illinois on June 13-15, 2016.

22 individuals from the Milledgeville area attended the convention to enjoy the keynote addresses, award presentations and science fair contest. 15 students enjoyed touring Lincoln’s home and the Museum.

Award recipients at the State Convention included: State Degree recipients - Shelby Judd, Mady Fink, Natalie Osterhaus, Alex Kersten, Racheal Osterhaus and Kaitlin Murray. Those not present in the picture include Bryce Frederick, Allison Fosset, and Cole VanDyke.

The state FFA degree is the highest level of membership a state can bestow upon its members. Students who receive this degree must meet the minimum requirements set by the National FFA constitution which includes participation in community service, Supervised Agricultural Experiences and agriculture classes.

Chapter President Mady Fink received her Bronze award that was presented on Stage.

Natalie Osterhaus and Charleese Faulkner received the Silver award for their work and interview about the Chapter Scrapbook

The chapter received the Century Challenge Award. This award is given to chapters that maintain 100% of agricultural education students as FFA members. Chapters that continue to be a Century Challenge winner will receive a plaque for every 5 year anniversary.

The Chadwick Milledgeville Chapter received its Silver National Chapter Award. The National chapter award program is designed to award FFA chapters that actively implement the mission and strategies of the organization. These chapters improve chapter operations using a Program of Activities that emphasize Growing Leaders, Building Communities and Strengthening Agriculture. The mission and strategies of the FFA should be used as a guide in planning, implementing, and assessing accomplishments.
