Congratulations to the Milledgeville art winners! And congratulations to all of our exhibiting Artists!  What an amazing show!  The Woodlawn Student-Teacher Art exhibit is a true display of the talent and dedication of our local teachers and students!  There were a total of twelve winners: four each from Elementary,  Junior high and high school. Over 100 entries were submitted from over 25 different schools around the area. These results were compiled from a community vote.

CGH Medical Center is pleased again to welcome the winners of the Woodlawn Arts Academy student art show to our Spirit of the Heart” healing art gallery.  The gallery will showcase local students and teachers, and the artwork will be on exhibit and open from May 14 – mid July for our patients and community.  The purpose of the CGH gallery is to host a venue for local artists to exhibit, and provide our patients and families with the value of the creative process of art as a healing force.  We would like to promote the proven healing and health benefits of beautiful artwork within our local hospital and clinics, and are excited to once again host the talented students and teachers at Woodlawn Arts Academy.

There will be a ceremony in September to celebrate the winners. Each winner will receive the honor of having his or her artwork turned into a digital image and that will be made into a giant banner that will hang over the 1st Ave Bridge over the Rock River that divides Sterling and Rock Falls. They will also receive some gift certificates for classes at the Woodlawn as well as framing from Grummerts Hardware.

Mrs. Laura Readdy, their art teacher at Milledgeville Elementary School, explained how this came about: “It is quite an honor to win this award. Before these were chosen to go to Woodlawn, their fellow classmates voted as to which piece of artwork was the best to represent their class and our school.  This truly was a win by the vote of the people.  As their art teacher, I am incredibly impressed and proud of my students for their dedication to doing their best. When you give something your best, the rewards will come. I have many talented students and it is my joy to be their teacher.”

Last year, Claire Ottens and Mikayla Meier won first and second place in the elementary contest. Their banners are up on the bridge now and will remain until fall when the new ones go up. Make sure to take a look at the incredible talent of our students.
